Performance Videos

There are lots of videos of me on YouTube. A few are really excellent, more are good, some are not... and a few are terrible. The ones on this page are my personal favorites. All of my performances are improvised, with no choreography. A few aren't on YouTube because of its annoying "content-ID" system.

To keep this page from getting enormous, the videos are all shown here in small sizes. But I encourage you to watch them in full-screen mode (click on the broken-rectangle icon in the far lower right corner of the YouTube viewer window to do that) so you don't have to squint.

Top Three

Since this page has grown to 13 videos, here are my top three favorites:

2013

In October 2013 I taught at the Seattle Fusion Festival with Kimberly Han. On Demo night, the organizers picked short bits of music for all the teachers to perform to. While we both prefer traditional tango, this was fun, especially not knowing what we were going to be dancing to!

Near the end of the winter of 2013, I had the good fortune to work with both Rebecca Rorick Smith and Jenna Rohrbacher within a couple of weeks. I hadn't danced with either of them in quite a long time, and there was virtually no time to practice, so naturally there were a few rough spots here and there. But I think they still came out pretty well.

2012

At the end of November 2012 I returned to Seattle, and for the next ten days I taught and performed again with Kimberly Han at a number of venues in Seattle and Portland. Of the seven performances, here are two - a soft and flowy Pugliese, and (unique for us, as we both dance mostly traditional) a Dubstep that we hit pretty hard!

Lindsey Stirling's "Crystallize" (YouTube)

Besides those two, the other five performances were: Carlos Di Sarli's Soy Aquel Viajero, Osvaldo Pugliese's Para Dos, Angel D'Agostino's Adios Arrabal, Alfredo De Angelis' Marioneta, and Juan D'Arienzo's El Aristocrata.

If you liked the "Crystallize" performance, try looking at the same performance from a different angle. I don't know who shot this video, but I'm glad he did - the difference in feeling you get from the same moments of the performance, just because the angle is different, are pretty interesting.

On October 10 2012 I came to Seattle and performed with Kimberly Han at La Monita. I was extremely happy with the performances, and as you will see, they look quite different from my previous ones. Both are posted on YouTube, but I had to cut 20 seconds at the beginning of the waltz to get it past the YouTube copyright police. Not much is lost, but for completeness' sake I've posted the entire video here directly.

Unlike my earlier videos, these are in High Definition (1080p and 720p for the YouTube ones, 720p for the other). Watch them in Full Screen mode!

On January 6 2012 I performed with Vanja Modzelewski at Milonga Nueva (at NETA) in Boston. The videographer going "Esa" is Carlos Moreno.

2010

On March 24 2010 I performed with Vanja at Tango Cafe in NYC. The first song is a nice performance of no particular distinction. The second is probably the best performance I've ever done (though naturally I hope to surpass it soon). Vanja and I were both definitely "in the zone" on this one. At least 30 people asked me who did the choreography on that one, but the answer is that it was improvised like all the others.

I'm sorry about the low quality of the video, but the Mraz at least is really worth watching anyway!

Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours" (YouTube)

Here is a somewhat higher quality version of the "I'm Yours" video, which is worth watching instead of the bad copy on YouTube. (It's also here because YouTube sometimes blocks this video.)

2009

One of the first performances I ever did was also at Tango Cafe, with Vanja, on June 24 2009. Looking at it now, I can see various problems with my posture, technique, and even clothes... but I still think the Oblivion we did was very good. It's a lot harder to do well than a typical traditional song.
